Enjoyed the silence…
Oh boy, it’s been almost half-a-year since last I bothered updating this blog. It’s shocking really!
You know how it goes. You kind of lapse into a non-update period, and then it all seems like too much effort to update and explain yourself. That’s where I was. Can’t say I feel awfully guilty, although I probably should.
So, what’s been happening on my end? Not really an awful lot. Watched a bunch of movies, played a lot of games, and finally managed to start and finish LOST. That in itself is quite an achievement I would say!
Looking to the future. Friday the FIFA World Cup starts. I’m sure it’ll be lovely, but I’m not a sports person as such. I hope South Africa manage to showcase everything that’s great about this country though.
In August we’re going to the UK and France for our vacation. Everything’s in place except for our Visas, but we’ll be getting those sorted soon. Then it’s just a matter of waiting it out. Can’t come soon enough, that’s for sure.
Work-wise… I moved to Sandton, still doing the same work, just in another place. Traffic’s much worse, but one gets used to it. However, with the launch of the Gautrain, I might finally be able to use public transport to come to work. Will give it a bash and see how it goes.
And that’s pretty much all I have for now. I might go into detail on some things as time goes on, we’ll see.

Hah!
Thanks to Mandy who pointed out some terrible rendering problems with the IE engine. The theme I’m using didn’t like adding a text widget to the sidebar, it closed the <div> tag too early, and was throwing the content div completely out. Some hacking later, I pinned the problem down to the functions.php file in the theme, I had to fix the tags in there, and voila, according to me it works! So if anybody’s still experiencing horrible rendering issues with the new theme, please feel free to leave a comment!

Take a peek beneath the skin
Alrighty, I’ve finally gone and updated the theme for my blog. I had to go in and hack a bit at the theme I chose to use, put I think the result looks good enough. I’ll probably spend a bit more time and tweak a few things, but I’m happy with the overall look. Very simple and clean.
I had to hack the gamercard plugin I wrote though, it was causing way to much misalignment issues, all my fault. It’s fixed now, and everything’s good to go!

I was sinking…
I’ve been thinking as of late, time to do some website updating. I’ve been considering getting rid of my current image gallery, which really is way too much overkill. So I’ve been looking at WordPress plugins that do similar, and I think I’m going to install NextGEN. Then I’ll have the painful task of updating my images on the blog, will probably have to look at the MySQL database for a quick way of doing this.
Since I’ve asked them to upgrade my website to PHP5, I’ve been getting a lot of Internal Server Errors, which I think might be related to memory usage. I should probably ask them if they can up my memory limit. If not, it might be time to look for another host, as it’s getting quite annoying actually.

Upgrade ho!
Well, I’ve upgraded my blog to WordPress v.2.7. Surprisingly, everything works! Even the plugin I wrote for my Gamercard, and that’s a good 4 versions back already.
I love the new interface, everything looks neat and shiny! Takes a little getting used to though, but in the long run it’ll be worth it.
That’s about all for now, I really need to make a decent update again some time. Maybe next week (yeah right)

Accomplishmentation.
I spent a bit of time with me blog again. I messed around with the theme templates, modified it a bit to suit my tastes for the main page.
I notice that I’m posting a little bit more regularly at least, I guess that’s something to be proud of. This spurred me to see if there’s a way I can feed my blog entries into my Facebook and Livejournal. So I went trolling for WordPress plugins. There’s a Facebook updating plugin for WordPress, but it’s not particularly up to date, so the new Facebook redesign breaks that one, so I put that on the backburner for now. Next up was Livejournal. I found a WordPress plugin that allows your updates to get posted onto LJ as well, and it works a treat. So if you’re reading this on my LJ, it means it really is working!
If I don’t get a decent Facebook plugin anytime soon, perhaps I’ll dive in and see about developing one myself. But then I’d have to figure out both Facebook’s API, and delve a bit deeper into WordPress as well. I wrote a plugin for WordPress that pulls my Xbox Live gamercard throughh as a widget, and that wasn’t too hectic, did learn quite a bit about the inner workings of WordPress as such, which has come in handy in doing some cosmetic modifications to the themes and such.
In other news, new Metallica album’s pretty damn good. Harks back to vintage Metallica, and that’s only a good thing in my book.
Our puppy’s growing up fast now, but she has discovered a new favourite past-time: snail hunting. She goes and finds them in the garden, and then brings them into the house to chew on her pillow. Then she leaves the bits all over, and that’s just gross! I guess that’s just one more joy of being a pet-owner.
