Get your rock on…
Hmmm, weekends. They always go by so fast, never staying long enough. Oh well, one day my wish for Wednesdays to become official mini-weekend-day will come true. One day…
What’s been happening on my side of the world. Well, got a bit of a bonus from work, yay. This meant new TV time. Got a Sony LCD, the KLV-32S400A. Great TV, but what a mission! Went to Hifi Corp, they didn’t have in stock at the branch. So decided to check in at Game, and on the shelf, there was the model I was looking for. After asking the sales person if they have stock, and receiving a definite yes, I purchased said TV. However, when they carted the box to me after I paid, I see that they brought the wrong model – a T-Series. According to them, it’s the newer model. Bull! I did my research thoroughhly, and the T-Series is basically a stripped down version from the S-Series. Sure, it’s got the same Bravia engine and all, but input wise it’s sorely lacking.
Well, after a lot of discussion, it comes down to the fact that they don’t stock the S-Series anymore. So we come to an agreement, where I get the S-Series that was on the shelf, and they give me a R1000 discount. I still have the full warranty on the TV, so I scored there. TV works just as well, no hassles or anything, so I came out on top there!
I also purchases the Guitar Hero World Tour super bundle, and LittleBigPlanet. LBP’s is a very charming little game, with endless possibilities due to it’s extremely powerful level creator. Guitar Hero now has drums as well as vocals, along withh the standard guitar and bass. I’m really liking the drums, always wanted to try my hand at drumming, and this is probably the closest I can get without making a huge commitment!
In other news, I’m quite happy to report that the new Guns ‘n Roses album does not suck! I actually quite like it.
And that’s about all I wrote for now.

A hot topic
Maaaaaaaan. It has started raining, and that’s great. But that seemed to have coincided with the aircons at work going belly up. It is boiling in the office at the moment, even with the windows open and everything. Not a pleasant working environment at all.
The weekend past was spent doing not an awful lot. And not because we didn’t want to, but we sat without power on Saturday evening all the way throughh to Sunday morning 11am. Not ideal conditions at all, although I did catch up on some sleep.
I spent the time I did have electricty backing up a whole bunch of crap on my PC I’ve accumulated over the last yes. I’ve got quite a bit of free space again now, and that’s always good!
Games wise, still playing Sacred 2, as well as World of Goo and Audiosurf. Going to try and see if I can find an early release of Fable II this afternoon, although I don’t know which shops, if any, are selling it. Ooooh, got Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Blu-ray today from Take 2. Should be good to watch again!

After the fact
Woooheeee, the last couple of days have been quite busy! Last week Thursday was my birthday, and this means loot! I got some good pressies, including a Jack Skellington wallet, money, Iron Man on Blu-ray, and from my dear wife, tickets to go watch The Parlotones Unplugged.
Let us talk about The Parlotones gig. We went to the show at the Barnyard in Alberton. We started with dinner at the Boma, which was quite good. Then we moved onto the show. The Parlotones were to be supported by One Sock Thief and Perez. Now, I’m a big One Sock Thief fan, so that’s good. Perez I don’t mind, but they’re not in my top 10, so to speak. However, it came to pass that Perez didn’t perform, and were instead replaced by The Black Hotels. Readers of my blog will know that I’m a huuuuuge fan of The Black Hotels, so this was a great bonus, making my birthday pressie extra special!
Added to all this, we finally managed to get our mitts on One Sock Thief’s debut album, which was officially available for purchase at the show. We bought the first CD, and we got all the members to sign it as well.
After the show, we managed to chat to the guys from One Sock Thief, who we are an good speaking terms. We also had a discussion with John from The Black Hotels, who said that the reason Perez didn’t play, was due to them breaking up (again). He stated that it was “complicated”. However, Nic from Perez is now the official fifth member of The Parlotones, and he performed with them on Sunday. It’s quite evident that he’s been rehearsing with them a lot, as he didn’t come off as a fifth wheel or anything.
Ah, on the gaming front. I purchased Sacred 2: Fallen Angel for the PC with my birthday money. I haven’t played a hack-n-slash game in some time, so it’s quite a lot of fun to get back into that mode!

Another update, if you please
Once again it’s time for the weekly update! *thrill*
Weekend past was good. We ended up going to rAge on Saturday, and against my better judgement I purchased a decent screencard for my newly bought PC. I originally just had a cheap Geforce 8500GT in to at least be able to use it, but it wasn’t really sufficient gaming wise. Yes, it could play my two-year old games that I had at the time of my last gaming machine breaking, but as there’s a ton of new games out there, I needed something a little more substantial. So, enter the Geforce 9800GT. According to 3DMark Vintage, my score has improves 100x over the 8500GT. So now I’m more then ready for the next onslaught of PC gaming.
On the subject of gaming, the last few weeks have been very quiet on the console gaming front, but that’s all going to change from next week. There’s close to 14 games coming out for the 360/PS3 from the 17th of October to the end of November that I would like to own. Sadly, I won’t be able to get all of them at launch, and right now I’m only concerned about Fallout 3. Everything else will have to wait.
Other then that, the weekend was quite uneventful, in a good way. Allowed me to get stuck in Dark Messiah and I also started playing The Witcher as well. At some point I really need to finally start with Guild Wars…

In which things are mentioned…
Weekend past was payday weekend. Never a good thing to get paid on a weekend! I did a long-overdue PC upgrade, which cost me more then I anticipated. Which in itself isn’t too bad, apart from the fact that the end of October is a terrible month when it comes to game releases. There’s at least 10 games coming out in that period that I would like to get. Although I’ve prioritised Fallout 3 and Guitar Hero World Tour at the moment.
Back to my new PC, it’s quite a nice change to be able to actually play games on a PC, as a for the last two years all my gaming has been happening on consoles. So I’ve got quite a bit of catching up to do, although I’ll have to still get a decent screencard to play most games at a decent rate. I go the cheapest one I could get to just get started. It works, but there’s plenty room for improvement.
I’ve got Vista running on my machine now, which is quite a change from Linux again. One of the next big things I need to do, is to get my MP3 collection updated on Windows, it was all good on Linux, but I lost a lot of the OS specific stuff there. All in good time though.

Sheeeeeeez
Man, time just has this habit of slipping away eh?
Update time! We did go and watch the Studio1 appearance of The Black Hotels last Friday. Was quite cool to see the band again, and have a little chat with the members!
Saturday morning Gwyneth went to her aunt again, and I played games, as usual. I finished Mass Effect on Saturday, finally! It was an awesome game, can’t wait for the inevitable sequel. Saturday evening we went to my friend Christoff for a bit of a house-warming. Had a braai, and had a blackout as well. Fortunately we didn’t cook, otherwise we would’ve been eating raw food!
Sunday Gwyneth went to the cricket with my dad, and I played games and watched some movies. I decided to finish up with Rainbow Six:Vegas, and I got a big chunk done there.
I did manage to finish Rainbow Six this Wednesday past. Took me more then a year, but hey, it’s done!
Other then that, there’s not really much to say. Looks like another weekend of hopeful lazing around the house playing games and watching movies. No complaints from my side!

Mixed blessings
It’s very nearly weekend. This morning was a nightmare getting to work, due to our lovely load-shedding company, Eskom. Took me 25 minutes to get through a traffic light, and I believe I still got of lightly!
My car. Destroyed. Well, probably not that bad. It was still overheating, so my dad was looking at it. We got a new radiator cap, as the other one was leaking and that could’ve been the cause of the overheating. This morning when my dad drove with the car, it just died on the way to work. It’s towed back home, but I’m not happy. I just spent R2000 to get it fixed, and now it’s worse! I don’t have this kind of money, I need to save for the wedding. I feel like crying a bit even…
We got hold of Burnout Paradise yesterday. I really like it, it’s a whole new experience compared to the other Burnout games. I now have a little too much games to play I think though.
99 Days till the wedding.

Weekend that was
Well, my car did not get sorted this weekend. Will have to take it to real workshop, and that’s going to cost a lot of money. Not ideal, seeing as we’re in wedding saving mode, but I guess one can’t control these type of events.
Watched a few movies this weekend, and managed to get videos streaming to the Xbox through Linux without using a Windows Virtual Machine. I found a paid solution that does video and audio through Linux which is exactly the same as from Windows, but I really don’t want to pay if I can avoid it. The free solution doesn’t work so well with my large music collection unfortunately. Perhaps in time.
Today things are getting back to normal, traffic is quickly picking up to the usual high volumes, and at work it’s business as usual. I guess all good things come to an end!
